About

Where does the data come from?

All of the data returned by these APIs is freely available. It typically comes from government agencies such as NOAA.

While it is amazing that this data is freely available, it is often in a format that is difficult to consume. This site repackages the data into a format that is much easier to work with.

What format is the data available in?

You can request the data in different formats by adding the extension corresponding to your desired content type to the resource named in the URL. Typically, the data is available in json, xml, csv, and html.

For example, to view the list of available APIs in different formats, try the links below.

Why did you make this?

I love to surf. But... I'm not very good at it. Especially when the waves are kinda shit. Occasionally when everything lines up (swell, wind, tide, no work, no obligations, no beers the night before), I feel like I actually am pretty good at it. In order to help things line up more often, I spend a lot of time trying to forecast when the waves will actually be good. Hopefully this site helps you do the same.

Also, I grew up in the 90's. I remember the internet being a cool place where random people built websites just for fun about things that they were interested in. That's what this site is. Something that I built for fun. I hope you find it useful. It will always be 100% free, no ads, no tracking, no javascript. Just surf data.
